The rules for cook reports and corrections on Not Just Stew, written plainly, and what happens to what you post.

What taking part is for

A cook report tells the next cook what happened when you made a dish as written: how you would rate the recipe, what went wrong if anything, a short note and, if you like, a photograph of your plate. A correction tells us that something in a chapter is wrong and points us to a source. Both exist to make the atlas more accurate and more useful. Neither is a place for opinion about other people.

What we accept

Reports about the recipe as written, in your own words and from your own kitchen. Photographs you took of what you cooked. Corrections with a source we can follow, and a line about your relationship to the food, because a correction from inside a tradition carries more weight than one from outside it and we want to credit it properly.

What we refuse

Anything abusive, threatening or discriminatory. Anything about a person rather than a dish. Advertising, promotion and links from members who have not yet built standing. Content that is not yours, including photographs of plates you did not cook. Anything unlawful. Reports that are not about the dish on the page. We remove such posts without discussion and may mute the member who posted them.

How moderation works

Your first reports are held and read before they appear. After a few good ones you are trusted and your reports appear at once. Every published report carries a Report button; if three readers report a post it comes off the page and back into review. Corrections never appear on the page: they go to Stewart, who checks them against sources in the order described on How we research, and when a correction changes a chapter you are credited. There are no replies and no threads, by design.

What you post stays yours

You keep ownership of what you write and photograph. By posting it you let Not Just Stew show it on the site and quote it in the letter, with your chosen display name. If you want a report of yours taken down, press Report on it or use the correction link and say so, and we will remove it. If you delete your account, your reports and photographs are removed with it. A correction that has already changed a chapter stays in the record without your name, because the chapter is what it is because of it.

Reporting and contact

Use the Report button on any published report, or the correction link on any page, and say what the problem is. Stewart Honeyman is responsible for this site and for dealing with reports; the contact route is on the privacy page. We act on reports of unlawful content as soon as we see them.

This page carries the date it was last changed, and changes to how taking part works are described here rather than made quietly.
